As part of a DAAD-funded academic teaching staff exchange program in the Media Architecture Dual Master’s Degree at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, Michael Markert will stay and work for one semester at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York. While artist and architect Prof. Mark Shepard, whose work addresses contemporary entanglements of technology and urban life, is visiting Weimar and teaching at the Bauhaus-Universität, Michael will try to fill his place temporarily at SUNY UB for the fall term.

Michael Markert is teaching on two campuses, one in the Faculty of Architecture, School of Architecture and Planning on South Campus. Another course “Mobile Media with HTML5” is part of the Department of Media Study on UB’s North Campus. This module will focus on mobile media development with HTML5 and JavaScript as up to date tools for media artists and designers.
»I am thankful for this invitation. Everyone is wonderful and welcoming – and Western New York and the Buffalo/Niagara Region are really beautiful, especially in the fall. And it’s certainly very interesting from an academic point of view: There are many things that I learned and which I will hopefully be able to apply back in Germany.« Michael Markert
The Media-Architecture program is an international and interdisciplinary master’s program that bridges architecture and media, public art and urbanism studies. Half of the master’s degree happens one year here in Buffalo and a second year in Weimar, Germany.
